Network QoS Management Framework for Server Clusters An End-Host Retrofitting Event-Handler Approachusin Netnice

چکیده
This paper tries to tackle the problem of providing retrofitting network QoS in clustered configurations. For this purpose, we designed a QoS manager which runs on each of the internal cluster nodes and controls network I/O of local interface cooperating with peer managers on other nodes towards a certain QoS policy. First, we show the design of control framework, contending that an end-host manager-based mechanism is a desirable approach, which utilizes an end-host oriented network control primitive, Netnice. Second, for flexibility of configuration, we propose object-oriented modeling of the QoS manager with eventhandler based configuration mechanism, and show the design of an object-oriented configuration language that allow simple and flexible definition of QoS policies. Lastly, results from two simple experiments with a Web server cluster are analyzed.

متن کاملRepresentation of Quality of Service Preferences by Contract Hierarchies
In an open electronic service market, competing service providers offer services to clients who may choose freely among the service types and service providers. Before the service provision, a client needs to identify a particular server and negotiate a service contract that determines the contractual constraints for the service interactions. Part of the contract will be an agreement on the ser...
متن کاملReading Course PaperOverview of Internet QoS and Web Server
The current Internet service model treats all requests equivalently, both while being processed by servers and while being transmitted over the network. Growing usage and diversity of applications on the Internet makes Quality of Service (QoS) an increasingly critical issue, especially in the e-commerce realm. This paper covers the motivation and considerations for adding QoS to the Internet, t...
متن کاملDesign and Evaluation of a QoS-Sensitive Communication Subsystem Architecture
There are a growing number of real-time applications (e.g., real-time controls, and audio/video conferencing) that require certain quality of service (QoS) guarantees from the underlying communication subsystem. The communication subsystem (host as well as network) must support real-time communication services that can be used to provide the required QoS of these applications , while providing ...
متن کاملA Stochastic Network Calculus
The issue of Quality of Service (QoS) performance analysis in packet switched networks has drawn a lot of attention in the networking community in recent years. There is a lot of work including an elegant theory under the name of network calculus focusing on analysis of deterministic worst case QoS performance bounds. In the meantime, other researchers have studied the stochastic QoS performanc...
